Moss makes his Gloucester debut on May 4

Every hero needs their signature style, so it’s fitting that menswear retailer Moss is arriving in Gloucester on May 4.

The date is an informal celebration of the Star Wars franchise, with fans saying “May the 4th be with you.”

Instead of Jedi robes and Yoda wisdom, however, Moss’s debut in the city will bring customers decades of customization know-how and a history of innovation.

The brand, founded in London in 1851, dropped the Bros from its name late last year in an effort to reflect a more modern and diverse approach that goes beyond wedding suits and formal tailoring.

Central to the new 1,948 m² store in Gloucester is the SS24 collection, with a relaxed summer atmosphere and relaxed lines.

The Quay branch will also offer an expert team of local stylists in-store to help new customers discover and enhance their unique style, and will also house Moss’ bespoke tailoring service.

Brian Brick, CEO of Mosssaid: “This store is a celebration of everything Moss stands for today; modernity, diversity and accessibility.

“We’ve drawn on our 173 years of expertise to create our most modern tailoring offering to date, alongside a range of premium casual styles, to form a truly thoughtful collection.

“We’re not just a suit brand selling casual wear or vice versa; Moss has transformed into a competitive menswear destination for both occasions and everyday wardrobes, and we’re hugely excited to showcase this to customers in a key corner of the South West.”

Owner of the Quays, Peel Retail & Leisure, has also announced two steps for existing retailers.

Shoe and lifestyle brand Skechers will expand its store in June. It will launch a store that is 50% larger than its existing location in a 4,500-square-foot store across from Moss and Timberland.

Sporty heritage clothing brand Raging Bull has also moved into a 1,400 sq ft unit.

Paul Carter, asset director at Peel Retail & Leisuresaid: “Gloucester Quays remains a hotspot for leading retailers, and the commitment of new brands such as Moss, combined with investment from existing tenants such as Skechers, is testament to the company’s continued appeal as an established top 10 shopping centre.

“Responding to consumer demand is of paramount importance, and maintaining a renewed, diverse mix of retailers plays an important role in this, something we have been advocating for for 15 years and is undoubtedly the reason why Gloucester Quays continues to perform .”

The surge in retail activity at Gloucester Quays follows the announcement that the outlet enjoyed another record period of sales from April 2023 to March 2024, with sales and footfall rising by 11% and 7% respectively.

This year the outlet is also celebrating its 15th anniversary, after being launched in 2009.
