Jon Moxley’s first IWGP world title defense will actually take place in AEW

Shortly after Jon Moxley won the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, New Japan Pro Wrestling announced that his first title defense would take place on May 4 against Ren Narita.

Meanwhile, AEW has officially re-booked Moxley for a Powerhouse Hobbs match for next week’s episode of Dynamite (April 24), but it wasn’t an IWGP title match because NJPW doesn’t do things that way when a new title match has already been announced . .

It turns out that AEW President Tony Khan must have made a deal with NJPW, because on tonight’s episode of Collision (April 20), it was announced that Moxley vs. Hobbs on Dynamite now for the IWGP World Title.

Don Callis took credit for the decision, indicating that NJPW owed him a favor after canceling the 2018 Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho had put together Tokyo Dome. Callis wants the IWGP World Title in his family’s possession, so he called for the favor.
