Ekiti twins arrested for stealing bags of rice and beans

Men of the Ekiti State Police Command have arrested twins – Taiwo and Kehinde Olasoji – and two others – Funke Afolayan ‘f’ and Nnaji Aroh ‘m’ for burglary and receiving stolen goods.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeniran Akinwale, said the twins were arrested on April 25 “while trying to break into a shop at Mathew Street, Odo-Ado, Ado Ekiti.”

The CP, in a statement on Sunday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, Sunday Abutu, said “the suspects confessed to the commission of the crime during interrogation.

“They further stated that they were responsible for the burglary of three shops at Fayemi Market in Agric Olope, Ado Ekiti, where they carted away two bags of rice, two bags of beans and other valuables worth ₦936,750.

“Further investigation by the Command’s Rapid Response Squad led to the arrest of one Afolayan Funke and Nnaji Benignus Aroh, who the suspects alleged received stolen property from them.”

The commissioner said that “the suspects will be charged accordingly.”

It would be recalled that the commissioner had on March 25 paraded a string of suspects, including a burglary suspect who broke into a shop at Ekiti airport on March 7 and stole some iron bars.

Akinwale had said: “Upon receipt of the information, the Rapid Response Squad of the Command swung into action and 18 pieces of 12mm iron bars valued at #261,000 were recovered from the possession of the arrested suspect.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the Commission to the crime and further stated that he had previously been involved in stealing numerous iron bars from the site.

The commissioner had appealed to all residents to be safety conscious, vigilant and report any untoward incident or occurrence observed in their area to the nearest police station.
