Chicago police officer shot and seriously injured on Southwest Side: Authorities

A Chicago police officer was shot and seriously injured early Sunday in Gage Park on the Southwest Side, authorities said.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, just before 3 a.m., paramedics responded to the 3100 block of West 56th Street for an officer’s shot.

The officer was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, fire officials said.

Chicago police are expected to provide an update on the shooting at the northwest corner of East 57th Street and South Cottage Grove Avenue in Hyde Park, near the University of Chicago.
