Man v Food star Adam Richman praises family-run Bury Market stall for ‘amazing’ dish

US TV star Adam Richman has heaped praise on another local foodie spot as he tours the country for his latest show.

As part of his current series, Adam Richman Eats Britain, the former Man v Food presenter has been traveling the country in a quest to sample the very best in British food. During the show, which airs on Food Network but can also be streamed on Discovery+, he tried everything from Yorkshire puddings to Aberdeen Angus steaks.

In this week’s episode, Adam headed to Chorley in Lancashire to try some traditional hotpot before stopping in Manchester to sample sausage rolls and potato waffles.

During his whistling tour, Adam also visited Bury Market, which was recently voted the best market in the North and third best in the country. While exploring the 600-year-old market, located at the Mill Gate Shopping Center on Murray Road, Adam came across local favorite Chadwick’s – infamous for their original Bury black pudding.

“Chadwick’s family have been making black pudding since 1865,” co-owner Tony, who runs the stall with his wife Mary, told Adam on the show. “We stuck to that recipe, kept it simple, kept it very small, but built a reputation.”

Speaking to Adam, Tony said Mary, born in Chadwick, had only trusted him with the secret family recipe three years after their wedding. “She went to the hospital to have our daughter and then she realized I couldn’t make black pudding the next day unless she told me,” he explained. “It was a price we had to pay, Adam.”

After reviewing the recipe for making the dish, which can be eaten hot or cold and consists of a sausage containing blood and grains, Adam was able to taste the dish for the first time.
