“Toxins and wind turbines, enough is enough: Portoscuso is not a dumping ground”

“New alarm about pollution, disappearing jobs, toxic dumps and now also concession of space for wind and photovoltaic invasion: the time has come to put an end to this, we deserve a better future consisting of land reclamation, development and tourism. ” This is the thinking of the citizens of Portoscuso who are tired of seeing the country they were born in at the mercy of those who have been using this area for decades as a land of conquest, leaving behind dumps and rubble.

“Our country has so much to offer its inhabitants – says Mauro Stocchino, a trader whose shop is a stone’s throw from the coast where the first tourists arrive – let’s think of our beautiful beaches, the ancient art of tuna fishing and the thousand attractions in the area that can be exploited for tourism. In the past the role of reviving this country’s fortunes was delegated to industry and the thousands of jobs it has created are undisputed, but what is left for us now?

“Even today, many aspects of the offshore wind project are not clear – adds Federico Cau – What are the benefits for employment and local development? Does the distance of 35 kilometers from the coast protect tuna fishing and small-scale fishing, which represent our history and our roots? For all these reasons and because we have not yet learned whether there are at least some benefits for the population, we can only be against it.”
