Three people from the Hyderabad family have been successfully treated for kidney stones at AINU

HYDERABAD: In a rare occurrence, three members of the same family in Hyderabad suffered from kidney stones and underwent successful surgeries at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU).

Dr. Explaining the matter, Deepak Ragoori, Senior Consultant Urologist at AINU, stated that while kidney stones are common, it is unusual to see a father and his two sons experiencing the same problem. The father and eldest son had previously undergone surgeries, while the youngest son, aged nine, had recently developed kidney stones that required emergency surgery. Although we cannot definitively attribute it to an inheritance, it is essential to be vigilant when similar problems arise within the family.

Dr. Ragoori advised parents to schedule regular checkups for their children and recommended periodic checkups for those diagnosed with stones. A comprehensive metabolic evaluation is critical to identify any treatable causes in this age group. It is important to note that we cannot impose food restrictions on children because they are still growing and need a variety of nutrients. In addition, children often engage in physical activities and may not consume enough water.

If your child is diagnosed with kidney stones, you should seek medical advice and ensure regular check-ups. With the right medical intervention, conditions such as excessive uric acid production or calcium deposits caused by a parathyroid hormone imbalance can be effectively treated.
