Taste Leitrim launches Sustainable Food Trail for 2024

The launch of the Taste Leitrim Sustainable Food Route 2024 took place on Thursday, April 18, with events at Jinny’s Tearooms, Drumshanbo and Glencar teaSHED, Glencar, Co. Leitrim.

Both events were jointly organized by the Local Enterprise Office, Leitrim County Council, The Food Hub Drumshanbo and Momentum, Leitrim Village, Taste Leitrim Facilitators.

Many hospitality and hospitality businesses from across the province attended the event. Attendees saw and tasted some of the delicious food produced in Leitrim and met some of the many producers who make Taste Leitrim so successful.

By 2024, Taste Leitrim has committed to being one of the first food trails in Ireland to highlight its environmentally sustainable ethos of ‘Low Carbon, High Adventure’., supported by promotional activities that strive to be environmentally responsibleto work Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is also a key feature of the campaign.

Visitors and locals are encouraged to adopt low-carbon travel practices as they travel around the province the use of the excellent Local Link Bus services, electric cycle paths, electric vehicle charging points and more, all are marked on the 2024 map. There is also a strong focus on picnics and connections to Leitrim’s outdoor leisure spaces.

Joe Lowe, Head of Enterprise at the Local Enterprise Office (LEO), Leitrim, said: “The Taste Leitrim Sustainable Food Trail map has all the information anyone needs to find somewhere to eat in Leitrim, with almost 120 Taste Leitrim locations to choose from.”

Lisa O’Connell, Business Advisor, LEO Leitrim shared details with attendees about the support available to Leitrim businesses including Green for Business, that is a free program and the Energy Efficiency subsidy scheme That helps small businesses take the first step towards sustainability. She encouraged anyone doing business in Leitrim to contact the LEO office for more information.

In Drumshanbo, Pascal Gillard from Jinny’s Bakery, who has completed the Green for Business programme, spoke about the many challenges of running a food business in the current climate and described some of the sustainability initiatives his company to ensure that costs can be reduced as much as possible. “Support from the Local Enterprise Office can make a significant differenceI would encourage all food and catering businesses Unpleasant Certainly connect with them”, said Pascal.

Momentum’s Orla Casey highlighted that the campaign was inspired by Leitrim’s exist for a long time sustainability credentials and focus as Ireland’s slow adventure capital of Ireland.
