Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on Friday inaugurated the Naval Training Command headquarters as part of efforts to tackle insecurity in Rivers and the Niger Delta.

The governor, who inaugurated the facility in Ebubu community, Eleme LGA of Rivers, said the Naval Command Headquarters had been relocated from Lagos to Rivers.

He said the state government donated the facility to the Nigerian Navy to coordinate all naval training schools across the country.

“The new training command center is a testament to the Navy leadership’s commitment to enhancing the professional development of Navy personnel.

“The facility will be used to build a highly capable, capable and motivated naval force capable of promoting the security and prosperity of the country’s maritime interests.

“The new Training Command Headquarters showcases President Bola Tinubu’s initiative to strengthen the Navy’s combat capabilities to counter security threats,” he said.

Fubara said Rivers faced threats from sea pirates, kidnappers, pipeline vandals and oil thieves, negatively impacting both the state and national economies.

He said his government would continue to support the military and other security forces in protecting the state from criminal elements.

The Governor announced a donation of N350 million to the Navy to support the operationalization of the Training Command.

In his remark, the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, said he was optimistic that the relocation of the headquarters to the state would enhance the operational capabilities of the Navy.

According to him, the move is part of the Navy’s 2030 strategic plan to expand its training facilities nationwide.

“The new complex will provide an enabling environment for naval personnel to expand their knowledge in fulfilling the naval mandate.

“It will help provide an enabling learning environment for the Navy to carry out its statutory duty to enhance maritime security across the country.

“The Navy will continue to conduct operations to protect our maritime domain in accordance with the President’s directive to leverage the vast economic potential in the nation’s waters for economic prosperity,” he said.

Ogalla commended Fubara for donating the facility and offering logistical support for the establishment of the command headquarters for naval training. (NAN)
