The Congress Party’s Wayanad District Committee has filed a police complaint in connection with a ‘fake video’ of leader Rahul Gandhi circulating on social media in the name of a party unit.

The party stated that the video aims to “destroy” the country’s religious harmony and portray the party in a negative light. The party also attacked a copy of the video along with the complaint.

“It has been noticed that a fake video is being made and circulated in the name of Wayanad District Congress Committee with the intention of destroying the religious harmony of the country,” said the party’s district committee complaint to the Wayanad police.

The party demanded that the makers of the video be held accountable and action be taken against them. It also demanded that the video be removed from social media.

“In this regard, it is requested that the makers of this video, which was deliberately produced and circulated to portray the Congress Party in a negative light in the society, be identified and brought to book, along with taking action to suppress the video delete from social media,” the complaint added.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi contested the Lok Sabha elections from Wayanad in the second phase on Friday. He is seeking a second term in Parliament from the constituency after winning the seat by a wide margin in 2014.

He faces a two-pronged challenge from BJP and CPI(M). While CPI has fielded Annie Raja, the BJP has fielded K Surendran from the seat. (ANI)
