Puppy rescue becomes bittersweet due to impenetrable hedge

Othello, Washington – Animal rescuers did their best to coax a litter of puppies out from under the brush, but unfortunately they were only able to save one. Three out of four young dogs are still in the bush!

Rescuers from Adams County Pet Rescue in Othello, Washington, shared bittersweet news on Facebook earlier this month.

They were called to help a mother dog and her five young puppies, but they were only able to save the mother and one puppy.

An elderly woman discovered the dog and her four babies in her garden and alerted rescuers because she could not help the animals herself.

Thirty minutes after their arrival, rescuers captured the frightened mother dog.

Unfortunately, as they explained in their post, the dog was “too tired to be a mother and has no interest in helping us search for her pups.”

She didn’t even respond when her puppies cried.

“We hoped she would crawl under the hedge so they would see or hear her and come here,” the rescuers added. Unfortunately that was not the case.

After their coaxing failed, a rescue worker climbed into the bushes and managed to chase a puppy out of the hedge and into her colleague’s arms.

Unfortunately, rescuers only managed to capture one of the four reported puppies. The second dog ran even further under the hedge.

“We only heard from two puppies and we wonder if something happened to the other two,” the organization wrote on Facebook. “We were only able to get one of the pups and had to leave the second behind. As well as removing the hedge, we have to hope that the pup will come out to eat and that we can eventually trap him.”

Rescuers left food near the hedge and hoped to catch the other pup.
