12th Macau International Travel (Industry) Expo opens its doors

Tourism professionals from far and wide, including the Belt and Road countries, attended Macau’s annual travel fair, making it the largest since its inception 12 years ago.

The 12th Macau International Travel (Industry) Expo, or MITE, is open to the public from April 26 to 28.

Participants from 54 countries and regions now present their offerings on a floor area of ​​30,000 square meters, with 1,353 stands – 290 of which are dedicated to mainland China and 218 in the international zone.

“In line with UN tourism estimates from early this year, international tourism will fully recover and reach pre-pandemic levels by 2024,” Lei Wai Nong, the Minister of Economy and Finance, said in a speech on Friday .

“According to the forecast of the China Tourism Academy, Chinese visitors are expected to make more than 6 billion domestic trips in 2024, with the total number of inbound and outbound tourist visits expected to exceed 260 million.”

The Tourist Office expects the number of participants to reach the level of 37,000 in 2023.

Meanwhile, the ECTAA 2025 Macau Summit – a companion event – ​​announced Macau as the preferred tourist destination for 2025.

About thirty member states will join forces to promote the city’s offering.

In the first quarter of 2024, the number of tourists in Macau was approximately 47,000 – an increase of 195 percent from the previous year.

This figure is around 70 percent of 2019 levels.
