Xi emphasizes building world-class military medical universities – Beijing Review

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for building world-class military medical universities, stressing that they should serve the battlefield and troops and embrace the future.

Xi, who is also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the comments during an inspection at the Army Medical University on April 23.

Xi stressed the need to implement the thinking on strengthening the military for the new era and urged the university to improve its running and talent development and enhance its medical support capabilities.

During the inspection, Xi learned about the university’s basic information and the main discipline related to battlefield medical treatment.

As a reorganized institution founded in 2017, the university has accomplished a series of important tasks, including medical support for the military struggle and the prevention and control of COVID-19. Xi acknowledged the university’s efforts to boost development and complete tasks.

Xi met with representatives of officers and soldiers from the university and took a group photo with them.

He underlined the importance of promoting virtue and developing combat capabilities, and vigorously promoting innovation in military-medical scientific research to gain an edge in the frontiers.

Xi emphasized exercising full and rigorous Party self-governance and providing Party discipline education.

Work should be done to promote law-based governance and tighten education management, Xi said, calling for joint efforts to open new horizons for the development of universities.
