A drop, a flood of health – Escambray

The 63rd National Bivalent Oral Polio Vaccination Campaign has begun

The National Bivalent Oral Polio Vaccination Campaign began yesterday across the country and will be extended until April 26, with the aim of keeping polio eradicated, one of the most relevant achievements of Cuban public health.

As reported on the website of the Ministry of Health (Minsap), vaccination points will be set up throughout the national territory, mainly in outpatient clinics and general practitioner and nurse practices, to bring the service closer and ensure its maintenance.

The vaccination process is carried out in two phases, with two doses of bivalent oral polio vaccine. The first concerns all children who are more than one month old on April 22 and have not yet reached the age of three, with a recovery week from April 29 to May 3.

Likewise, the second phase of the campaign will be announced between June 17 and 21, in which the second dose will be administered to those who receive the first dose, and a reactive dose will be administered to children aged nine years, with recovery between June 24 and 28.

In the same way, a recovery week is provided for babies who cannot attend for various reasons, as the fact that they show symptoms of fever, vomiting or diarrhea pose barriers to access to the immunogen administered in drops, de Minsap said .
