NSA Bahrain rallies in support of DoDEA school amid rain-related damage > US Navy > News stories

The recent heavy rains in Bahrain caused extensive damage to the classrooms of the DoDEA school in Bahrain, necessitating a temporary switch to a virtual learning environment.

“The DoDEA Bahrain Schools transitioned to remote learning status this week due to the recent extreme weather events in the region and to enable school management, together with our military partners and the Bahrain International Schools Association, to conduct thorough assessments, planning and to carry out facility repairs at the school,” said Jessica Tackaberry, Europe Region Communications Director, DoDEA. “We are working hand-in-hand with our military partners and the Bahrain International Schools Association to ensure repairs are completed and a safe environment is created for all.”

Recognizing the impact on the students and the importance of their education, NSA Bahrain sailors took action to support the school in times of need. In the wake of heavy rainfall that caused significant damage to the school’s infrastructure, volunteers deployed for more than seven hours over two days. They played a critical role in moving classrooms and equipment, allowing the school to continue its mission of providing quality education to military dependents. in the region.

Captain Zachariah Aperauch, the commander of the NSA in Bahrain, praised the efforts of the sailors and emphasized their dedication to their shipmates and their families.

“So many sailors have answered the call to help the Bahrain School, many of whom do not have children at the school but understand how important attending class in person is to the learning process,” Aperauch said. “I am beyond proud of our NSA Bahrain team; their selfless hard work and tireless dedication have made it possible for these children to return to school as soon as possible.”

NSA Bahrain Sailors moved desks, tables, chairs and other equipment from the damaged classrooms, ensuring a smooth transition of school activities. Their efforts helped restore a conducive learning environment for students, allowing them to resume in-person classes.
