Relatives of murdered ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ protester arrested in Gilan, Iran

Maryam Basir Tavana, Mahsa Basir Tavana and Meysam Basir Tavana, siblings of Mehran Basir Tavana, a victim of the Woman, Life, Freedom (Jin, Jian, Azadi) movement, were arrested by the security services of the Islamic Republic of Iran. the town of Sowme’eh Sara.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, intelligence personnel from the Fuman Municipal Office in Gilan Province arrested Maryam Basir Tavana, Mahsa Basir Tavana and Meysam Basir Tavana, members of grieving families. transported them to an unknown location. The arrests took place without a court warrant, while intelligence services conducted raids on their homes.

At the time of this report, precise information regarding the reasons for the arrests, the charges against them, and the whereabouts of these three family members remain elusive, despite their families’ continued efforts to obtain information.

It is noteworthy that Mahsa Basir Tavana was arrested twice last year, in August and November, by intelligence services.

Mehran Basir Tavana, 29 years old and from Fuman city in Gilan province, was tragically killed on November 16, 2022 during nationwide protests in Sowme’eh Sara. He succumbed to a direct shot to the chest, fired by government forces amid the unrest.
