Murder investigation after man dies and woman is injured

A man has been found dead and a woman has suffered serious head injuries at a home north of Brisbane as homicide detectives investigate.

Police were called to a welfare check at a house in Burpengary East on Thursday morning where they found two people in their 70s with serious head injuries.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

A 26-year-old Boondall man was taken into custody after waiting for police at the property.

Detective Inspector David Harbison said it was not a domestic abuse-related incident and the 26-year-old man was not previously known to the victims.

“We believe he was only present today to do some form of gardening work,” Det Insp Harbison told reporters on Thursday.

The police are not looking for other interested parties.

Det Insp Harbison described it as a tragic and devastating incident.

“It’s so terribly traumatic for everyone to see this, including the first responders,” he said.

“We hope to get to the bottom of this, find out more and try to understand how this incident happened.”

A crime scene has been established while the investigation is ongoing.
