AR Rahman was granted to the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Prize at a ceremony at Dinanath Mangeshkar Natyagrih in Mumbai. The event, which took place in Mumbai, honored Oscar and Grammy-winning composer AR Rahman, for his contributions to the field of music. The composer, who deserves praise for his album for Imtiaz Ali director Amar Singh Chamkila, expressed his gratitude for the honor and shared an anecdote about his late father and the Mangeshkar family.

While receiving the award, A R Rahman took the stage to recall the deep respect his father had for the Mangeshkar family. He said, “When my father worked in the film industry in the south, he would often stand up and face Lata Mangeshkar ji’s photo. So when I became a Southern composer and the tremendous love I received from you, my life changed. One thing I tell my family – my children – is that look at the Mangeshkar family.

He added that the dedication the family has shown to the profession is inspiring. He continued, “Today we need that, today we need to celebrate the initiation of Lata ji, Asha ji, Hridaynath ji and the entire family. Hridaynath ji keeps asking me what I like about him. I say: ‘everything’.”

It was an evening worth remembering as many leading artists from the Hindi, Marathi and Tamil film industries were honored at the third Late Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award ceremony at Vile Parle area of ​​Mumbai on Wednesday 24 April. Veteran Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan was celebrated with the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award for his exemplary contributions to the field of cinema in a career spanning over five decades.

Bachchan, 81, received the award on the memorial day of Deenanath Mangeshkar, the theater music veteran and father of the Mangeshkar siblings. Singer Usha Mangeshkar, the third eldest of the Mangeshkar siblings, presented the award to Bachchan. The actor recalled a past ceremony where he started speaking in Hindi only to see his speech receiving a strong response from the audience saying, “Aye Marathi Marathi”. To this, the Big B replied, “Mi Marathi shikat aahe (I am learning Marathi).” Actors Randeep Hooda, Ashok Saraf, playback singer Roopkumar Rathod and actress Padmini Kolhapure were also honored for their work at the event.
