Think About Becoming a Chef – The Rampage Online

Fresno City College offers a culinary program that prepares students in the field of culinary arts.

Jonathan Davey has been the lead instructor of the culinary program since fall 2011. Davey previously taught at the Institute of Technology and Brigham Young University.

“One of the things I like about cooking is that there is always something new to learn. My parents were both great cooks and instilled a love of food,” says Davey.

The lessons cover basic food preparation, food safety, kitchen math, purchasing, kitchen management and quantity of food preparation.

“The purpose of the program is to prepare students for entry-level positions in the food industry and provide them with the skills that will assist them in their promotion to management positions,” said Davey.

These classes can give students experiences that can prepare them to become a great chef in the kitchen, whether it means managing the kitchen or working in the food industry.

According to the FCC website, the culinary arts program offers three different certificates: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Culinary Art certificates.

The Basic and Intermediate program is designed to prepare you for an entry-level food service job.

The advanced program aims to prepare students for career advancement into entry-level management positions.

Courses are offered face-to-face or online, but courses that require hands-on are offered in person only.

In order to earn a certificate, students must complete a certain number of units. The basic class is 8.5 units in total, the intermediate class is 7.5 units, and the advanced class is 12 units.

Students can earn an associate degree in food service management and various certificates in food management and culinary arts.

At the end of this program, students can obtain job opportunities and internship placement assistance through the Center for Career and Employment. If the student has not planned a work station, the instructor will help him place one.
