Dog found hooked to tree with collar, abandoned in South Windsor

The incident occurred in Hartford County on Monday, April 22, at the Frank Niederwerfer Wildlife Sanctuary in South Windsor over the report of a barking dog, officials with the Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter said.

According to officers who came to rescue the dog Kobe, someone left the male black and white pit bull attached to the tree by his collar and walked away.

Officers have been investigating, but cameras on local homes do not cover the area where this dog was abandoned.

“We are asking for the public’s help for any information. Please look at the collar he has on his left hand with the name Kobe,” the organization said. “Maybe your neighbor had a dog that fit this description that is no longer there, or you heard someone talking about leaving this sweet boy behind.”

Since Kobe was found, the Army Animal Law Advocates of Desmond have offered a $5,000 reward for the arrest and prosecution of the person responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Windsor Police Animal Control Officer Curtis at 860-648-6239.
