SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER ROBERTO J. ALONSO ORGANIZES A FAMILY NIGHT AT TWIN LAKES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

On Monday, April 22, 2024, School Board Member Roberto J. Alonso, District 4, welcomed students and families from Twin Lakes Elementary School for a lively and engaging family evening. The event saw a remarkable turnout as parents, families and the school community came together to celebrate the talents and achievements of their students.

The joyful evening featured a wide variety of wonderful student performances, including fascinating musical performances, lively dancing, and other artistic presentations, which once again confirmed that Twin Lakes Elementary has talent! Everyone had a great time and enjoyed delicious refreshments. The students also broke into small groups to learn more about the importance of family values. Pastor Louis of Elevate Church, families and school staff shared their thoughts on the critical role families play and the importance of investing time in children’s lives.

This family evening is part of a series of family-oriented events, initiated by school board member Alonso, to promote greater parent and family involvement in children’s education. By providing families with a platform to come together and celebrate their children’s achievements, Mr. Alonso aims to reinforce the importance of parental involvement in our students’ educational journey. Board member Alonso thanked all the community partners, board and families who made this event a resounding success!

“I am thrilled to see such overwhelming support from the families of Twin Lakes Elementary,” said board member Alonso. “Events like these not only showcase the incredible talents of our students, but also serve as a reminder of the invaluable role parents play in their children’s academic success. By working together, we can create a supportive environment where every child can thrive.”

Parental involvement is crucial to student success. Statistics indicate that 95% of students with actively involved parents have better mental and physical well-being, giving them a good foundation to excel academically. Students with involved parents experience reduced stress and anxiety levels, improved concentration in class, and improved cognitive skills. Furthermore, 62.1% of students agree that parental involvement increases self-esteem, which is essential for academic achievement. Parental involvement enables students to develop a positive self-image and believe in their abilities, reduces their fear of failure, encourages them to take risks and develops perseverance.
