Hyderabad’s BJP nominee files nomination with Charminar – Yes Punjab rally

Hyderabad, April 24, 2024
BJP’s Hyderabad Lok Sabha candidate K. Madhavi Latha filed her nomination after leading a rally from Charminar on Wednesday.

She along with her supporters offered prayers at the Bhagya Laxmi Temple, adjacent to the historical monument, before leaving for the Hyderabad District Collectorate to file her nomination.

Hundreds of BJP supporters, holding party flags and raising slogans, took part in the rally that passed through Gulzar Houz, Pathergatti, Madina, Naya Pul and Afzal Gunj.

Madhavi Latha wore saffron robes and took part in the rituals in the temple and also blew the conch.

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur later joined the nomination meeting and appealed to people to support the BJP candidate.

Earlier, talking to reporters from Charminar, the BJP candidate sought people’s support to defeat the ‘communal’ AIMIM, Congress and BRS.

The BJP nominee, who was booked by the police for her provocative gesture of firing an imaginary arrow at a mosque during the Ram Navami procession, reiterated that the video was edited to attack her.

She said her political rivals resorted to these tactics because they feared losing the election.

Replying to a question, she said Muslim women studying in madrasas are allowed to wear hijab, but religious dress code should not be allowed in regular schools.

She said minorities have the right under Article 30 of the Constitution to open their schools as madrasas and the girls can go there wearing a hijab. She said Hindus cannot open similar schools to teach their religion.

However, she found fault with the management of madrasas for not introducing English and modern education.

The nomination meeting of Madhavi Latha was held a few days after AIMIM organized a similar meeting from the historic Mecca Masjid near Charminar. After offering Friday prayers at the mosque, AIMIM chief and sitting MP Asaduddin Owaisi left in a rally to file his nomination papers.

The Hyderabad constituency is a stronghold of AIMIM, which has won the seat for the past four decades. It has never lost an election here since 1984. (Agency)
