Family of one of the victims is calling for answers

JOHANNESBURG – Mourners gathered at Rabasotho Hall in Tembisa for the funeral service of the two students who drowned at a camp in Centurion and are calling for answers.

Siphamandla Peterson and Sibusiso Sibiya, who attended Daveyton Skills School, were killed during a discipline camp.

The Sibiya family said the Gauteng Department of Education had failed them.

Family spokesperson Thandanani Sibiya spoke Eyewitness News on the sidelines of his cousin’s funeral Wednesday.

He said after Education MEC Matome Chiloane visited the family last week, there was no communication on the matter.

“We have failed from day one, especially at everything. We didn’t get the information in time and even now we still don’t have answers.”
