Earth Day tips to make an eco-friendly choice when it comes to your favorite drink

Ahead of Earth Day (Monday, April 22), online drinks retailer The Bottle Club is encouraging drinks lovers to think about the best way to choose, prepare and enjoy their favorite drink to help protect our planet. In addition to recommending a trio of planet-friendly drinks, The Bottle Club’s Tim Martin-Harvey has put together a handy checklist of ways you can enjoy your favorite drinks in the most eco-friendly way…

Choose planet-friendly drinks

Look out for brands talking about their sustainable production, the origins of their ingredients, packaging and management of their environmental footprint.

Grow your own Garnish Garden

Mint, rosemary and lavender are all hardy plants that are easy to care for outdoors and make great garnishes and ingredients. In addition, a small windowsill planter in which basil, thyme and lemon verbena can thrive will come in handy.

Reuse and recycle

There are so many beautiful bottles containing beautiful spirits and wines. In addition to recycling properly (removing foil, composting natural corks, recycling bottles), you can reuse many barrels by turning them into candle holders, fairy centerpieces, water jugs and more.

Netflix and pre-chill

Do your part to save water and reduce the carbon footprint of your home cocktail by making your own ice and pre-chilling ingredients and glassware.

Buy ready-made

If you only want to make a few cocktails for a one-time gathering, avoid buying and wasting entire bottles of bitters and liqueurs by opting for RTDs. There are a wide variety of high-quality options available, ideal for you to enjoy as and when you please.

Sip sustainably with this trio of spirits and see how each does their part to protect the planet…

Mijenta Blanco Tequila, 70cl: £49.49

Mijenta Blanco Tequila is made from 100% blue agave and is smooth and mellow with a hint of sweetness. It’s perfect for sipping on a hot summer day or to enjoy neat after a meal. Whether you’re a tequila connoisseur or just starting to explore the world of Mexican spirits, you’ll love Mijenta Blanco Tequila.

Bacardi Carta Oro Rum, 70cl: £21.19

BACARDÍ Carta Oro rum combines rich, soothing flavors such as vanilla, buttery caramel, roasted almond and sweet banana notes, balanced by the warm zest of orange peel and a light, oaky finish. The secret behind the unique soft character lies in a unique blend of charcoal.

Silent Pool Rose Expression Gin, 70cl: £36.49

Rose Expression Gin shares the Silent Pool Gin DNA in terms of complexity and refreshingly individual character, but the core recipe has been refined to complement and enhance the rose notes. Some of the original botanicals – pear, bergamot, cubeb and cardamom – are increased, while lemon becomes the main citrus fruit. Just beautiful.
