A man is in critical condition after falling into the swimming pool of a tourist complex in Tias, Lanzarote.

The 53-year-old man’s life was saved thanks to the quick response of a lifeguard and emergency workers at a tourist complex on Calle Mato in Tías. The incident occurred around 6:31 PM local time on Tuesday, prompting an urgent call to the Canary Islands Government’s Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (CECOES) 112.

Reports indicate that the man fell into the pool, leading to sudden cardiac and respiratory arrest. The resort’s lifeguard responded quickly and initiated resuscitation maneuvers until medical teams arrived.

In response to the warning, CECOES 112 coordinated a rapid deployment of resources, including basic and advanced life support ambulances from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), as well as assistance from local police to secure the area.

The joint efforts between the lifeguard, emergency responders and law enforcement were critical in stabilizing the patient’s condition at the scene. After intensive care at the scene, the man was transported in critical condition to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital for specialized medical treatment.
