Amid the recent power outages, there is something of a cold war going on, especially on social media, between members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Richard Ahiagbah, the nuclear power plant’s national communications director, found himself in the crosshairs of criticism following his comments on ongoing electricity challenges.

Ahiagbah, who addressed public frustrations arising from the power outages, assured Ghanaians that maintenance work was nearing completion.

“The recent power outages have been understandably frustrating. However, there is an end in sight.

“The maintenance work is almost complete and we can soon expect round-the-clock access to uninterrupted power supply as we have become accustomed to under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.

“The NDC is the last political organization to point fingers because Ghana has not forgotten the pain of the real domsor who suffered under HE Mahama,” he said in a social media post on April 23, 2024.

However, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, an aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, fired back at Ahiagbah’s comments. She quoted Ahiagbah’s tweet and described his comments as “stupid and pathetic.”

“You actually typed this tweet yourself lol! What a stupid and pathetic tweet!

“Why @RAahiagbah when the lights go out under the watch of Akufo Addo, Bawumia and the nuclear power plant, we are no longer human, or we are transformed into another planet where there is no darkness or dumsor! Wow, this is downright ridiculous and embarrassing.

“Ghana deserves better!” she said.
