  • Last year, Barbra Streisand was honored with the Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Woman of Leadership Award.
  • Around the same time, the singer celebrated her 25th anniversary with her beloved husband.
  • Streisand, who is turning 82, spends her days enjoying the company of her growing family and doting on her grandchildren.

Barbra Streisand’s talents extend far beyond her musical career. As a renowned musician and impressive actress, the icon has certainly proven herself as a capable entertainer. However, last year she was also honored for her contributions to the lives of others and for being a role model for other women around the world.

On July 1, 2023, Streisand was honored with the Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Woman of Leadership Award. The award is presented annually to women who have taken on leadership roles and created positive change in the lives of others. Streisand was overjoyed to receive the award.

Streisand took to social media to express her joy at the news. She wrote that it was a great honor and that she was happy to follow in the footsteps of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Judge Sonia Sotomayor and Julie Opperman, president of the Dwight D. Opperman Foundation, presented her with the award.

Streisand was the fourth person to receive the prestigious award and was honored for her iconic career as a singer, writer, director and actress. The musician was recognized as an influential voice in the world, creating change through her music and other creative endeavors. She was also the first female composer to receive an Academy Award.

In addition to her work as an entertainer, Streisand has also contributed to several philanthropic projects. She has helped fund climate change research and the Barbra Streisand Women’s Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai. She is a leading voice in the fight for voter rights and promotes gender and racial equality.

Last November, Streisand released her memoir, “My Name Is Barbra.” The book she worked on for more than a decade captured the attention of readers across the country. It rose to number two on the New York Times hardcover nonfiction bestseller list immediately upon release. Her story struck a chord, selling more than 55,000 copies in the United States in the first week alone.

Celebrating 25 years of marriage

One of the achievements Streisand has celebrated is her marriage. The singer has been married to actor James Brolin for the past 25 years, and the couple celebrated their anniversary on the same day she received the Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Woman of Leadership Award.

Brolin spoke candidly about the latest from his marriage to the famous singer, saying that therapy is a secret. He confessed that marriage can be complex and arguments can be difficult to break up. His solution is to find a neutral third party who listens and thinks about relationship problems.

He also noted the importance of communication and said both parties need to feel heard. He also noted the importance of having a good cry every now and then.

With hectic careers, it can be easy for their marriage to fail, but Brolin and Streisand have found the perfect way to reconnect despite their schedules. Brolin said they make it a point to come home at night and spend quality time together, sweetly saying, “I can’t wait to see her again in the morning.”

The actor also noted that both he and his wife are at the age when most people retire, but he confessed that a life of sitting quietly in rocking chairs doesn’t seem to be in the cards for them. He said that Streisand has too many plans for projects she still wants to do and causes she wants to support.

While Streisand gives back to the community, Brolin continues to enjoy a successful career as an actor. He spends his days in front of the camera while his wife works on numerous philanthropic ventures. But Streisand also contributes to her husband’s career by helping him with the music for his films.

Despite their busy careers, Streisand and Brolin still try to prioritize their family. The iconic singer commented on her life and said she enjoys spending time with her children. She commented, “I love real life, you know? I love being in real life, and I love my garden and my dogs and my husband and my son and my growing family.”

Barbara’s growing family

Both Streisand and Brolin brought children from previous relationships into the marriage when they settled down together. They are both loving parents and have also built lasting relationships with their stepchildren. Streisand has proven she is close to Brolin’s son, actor Josh Brolin.

Although Streisand’s son Jason Gould has no children of his own, she became a doting grandmother when she married Brolin and her stepson welcomed his four children into the world. Brolin shares his son with his former wife, Jane Cameron Agee. The younger of the two Brolins shares his two eldest children with his ex-wife, Alice Adair.

Streisand’s two eldest grandchildren, Trevor Brolin and Eden Brolin, were born in 1988 and 1994, respectively. Streisand met the two children when she and Brolin married in 1998.

Josh and his ex-wife, Alice, went their separate ways shortly after welcoming Eden, and the actor would later marry Katherine Boyd Brolin.

Like their father and grandfather, Trevor and Eden inherited the family’s love of acting. Trevor has appeared in a number of films and worked for a number of years as a director, writer, cinematographer and producer. It seems that Trevor decided to quit acting in 2020 when he became an electrician.

Eden also shares her father and grandfather’s acting genes. With roles in hit TV shows like ‘Beyond’ and ‘Yellowstone’, it seems Eden is doing the Brolin family name proud. She also starred in ‘Arkansas’, ‘Blood Bound’, ‘Emerald City’, ‘I Dream Too Much’ and a host of other titles.

Although Eden and Trevor were born before Streisand met their grandfather, the singer has built a close bond with her eldest grandchildren. However, Streisand was over the moon when Josh welcomed his third child on November 4, 2018. A source close to Streisand noted that the singer loves little Westlyn Reign Brolin.

On Christmas Day 2020, Josh and his wife Katherine welcomed their second child together, Chapel Grace Brolin. The actor explained his youngest’s unique name and said he and Katherine always find solace in chapels when they travel.

Family over fame

Streisand’s memoir was intended to mark a quieter phase in her life, away from the constant hustle and bustle of Hollywood. Shelving projects like the Margaret Bourke-White biopic and the film adaptation of the ‘Gypsy’ movie had sent her to a quieter existence at home.

She looked forward to enjoying simple pleasures, such as relaxing car rides with her husband and cherished moments with her family. With a newfound determination to enjoy what life has to offer, she was willing to compensate for the times when pleasure seemed scarce.

Still, the unexpected success of her memoir, which topped the bestseller lists, brought with it a flood of promotional commitments: interviews and tours that delayed her long-awaited road trip. Despite her relentless fame and notoriety, Streisand still has mixed feelings about acting.

The rigors of filmmaking have lost their appeal and she now prefers the serenity of her personal life. However, the obligations that followed her literary achievement have pushed her expected leisurely travels with her husband further down the road.

As she reflects on the postponed adventures, she simultaneously embarks on a journey of self-expression, celebrating her 82nd year with style.

Embracing age with style

As she turns 82, Streisand is redefining what it means to age gracefully. She advocates dressing to reflect the mood, rather than adhering to age-based expectations. Looking back on her past, she remembers imagining a daring photo shoot wearing only a crisp white shirt.

Although she was hesitant to embrace her sensuality early in her career, she now feels freed from such fears. Age has not dampened her love of fashion and her penchant for collecting treasures, including movie costumes, a Fortuny dress, vintage clothing and antique dolls.

Recently, Streisand took to Instagram to announce “Love Will Survive,” a new song set for release on April 25, 2024. The song, which appears in the series ‘The Tattooist of Auschwitz’, is a heartfelt tribute to the six million victims of the Holocaust. With this piece, Streisand wants to honor their memory and celebrate the power of love.

Streisand, at 82, embodies a life rich in achievement, love and inspiration. Her memoir reflects a retreat from the spotlight to enjoy the simple pleasures of life with family, while her style remains uninhibited by age.

Streisand’s influence is celebrated with awards like the Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Woman of Leadership Award, and her upcoming song continues her legacy of inspiring change. As she enters another year, Barbara Streisand proves that age is no barrier to living life to the fullest and leaving a lasting impact.
