PEACOCK GROUP TO BUY INSIGNIA FOR EXPERTISE

Peacock Group will acquire Insignia, a 55-year-old family business specializing in labeling, coding and data collection solutions. The deal will close on May 31.

According to Peacock, the acquisition will make the Group “the most experienced” supplier of print packaging and supply chain technology in Australia, with around 15,000 customers in the ANZ region.

The Insignia name and company will continue to exist and operate alongside the other Peacock Group companies, and the Insignia will continue to operate as an independent entity within the Peacock Group. It will be ‘business as usual’, with production facilities in Brisbane and Melbourne operating as usual.

Peacock Group currently consists of the 136-year-old label printing and software company Peacock Bros. and the folding carton company AMR Hewitts, which bought it from the Mimmo family two years ago. The addition of Badges and its 115 employees will add to the Group’s core competencies, providing key skills and capabilities to enable the Group to operate in new markets, and growing the Group to a total of 300 employees.

According to the company, the acquisition of insignia gives Peacock expertise in product identification and traceability, with insignia working with leading brands in thermal printing, data collection and marking and coding solutions. Those brands, including Domino, Zebra, Honeywell and GS1.

In addition to product identification and traceability, Insignia – founded in 1967 and currently owned by the Winson Group – is also a leading national label manufacturer, producing custom product labels, transfer labels and blank labels and tags from its manufacturing facilities in Brisbane and Australia. Melbourne. Peacock Bros. is based in Melbourne and also has facilities in Sydney – where it conducts its digital operations, and in Auckland, New Zealand.

The Peacock Bros. branch. has both flexo and digital label printing systems, including from HP Indigo. And in addition to printing, the company offers a huge range of services to its customers, including warehousing, mobile data collection, digital ID solutions, software solutions, fleet management and asset tracking.

The company says the acquisition of the badge by family-owned Peacock Group, founded in 1888, brings together two of Australia’s most highly regarded and leading family-owned businesses within the supply chain solutions industry.

Insignia operates nationwide and serves 3,500 customers, including multinationals across a wide range of industries, including retail, transportation and logistics, manufacturing, automotive and food and beverage.

Winston himself will not make the switch to Peacock; he remains at Winson Group as director of the other main business Winson owns, Signet, which has just been sold to Spicers.

The acquisition of the badge comes a year after Peacock Group acquired OJ Holdings, the printing, packaging and handheld computing specialist.
