Teenager arrested after reports of ‘someone trying door handles’ in Scunthorpe

Police are investigating after reports of “someone trying door handles” in an area of ​​Scunthorpe.

Following an investigation into the incidents, a 17-year-old was arrested and later released on bail. It comes after police issued a ‘be vigilant’ alert following burglaries at two addresses in the same area.




A spokesman for Humberside Police said: “We received reports of someone attempting door handles on Mendip Road in Scunthorpe last week (Wednesday, April 17).

“After investigation, a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of twelve burglaries. He has since been released on conditional bail.

“Anyone with information or footage that may assist with our inquiries can contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference 24*52545. Alternatively, you can report information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”


A burglary alert from Brumby Community Police was posted on social media last week, stating: “There have been two reports of residential burglaries in the Mendip Road area of ​​Scunthorpe that have occurred overnight. Be vigilant and report anything suspicious to 101. If a crime is occurring, call 999. Keep windows and doors locked.”

A local resident said they shared with police footage they captured late at night of a person wearing a ski mask trying the front door and car doors and looking through car windows. The person could also be seen crouching behind a hedge.
