This chocolate Idli from Surat is making waves on the internet; Would you like a snack?

Surat’s latest chocolate idli, a dessert like no other, has drawn the ire of social media users. In recent years, the internet has witnessed several unique dessert creations ranging from chocolate momos to transparent gulab jamuns. In a similar case, the Curly Tales shared a video on Instagram, showcasing a unique food fusion. In the clip, a person can be seen preparing some fresh Idlis before adding chocolate syrup to it along with crushed chocolate pieces. One plate of this idli dessert will set you back Rs 110. The restaurant serving this new dessert is called Grenee Lp Savani and is located in the Dudhwala Chowpatty Food Court next to the Toyota showroom, near Hari Om Circle. The video has now been viewed over 9.45 lakh times on Instagram.

The unconventional chocolate treat has attracted a lot of attention on the internet, with most users feeling that this unique creation is unnecessary. One wrote: “I personally feel insulted as a Tamilian after watching this video.” Another commented: “These are the moments when I feel ashamed for living in Surat.” In one reply, a netizen suggested that they would also likely see a red velvet version of idli in the future. “Soon…we will see red velvet idli trending,” he wrote. Another jokingly said: “Why should Dosa have all the fun.” One user felt that food products were starting to lose their originality due to these innovations. “Nonsense. In the name of innovation, the original things are being sacrificed,” he said.

This is not the first time someone has experimented with the South Indian delicacy. A few months ago, I saw on the internet that a food vendor was making an ice cream out of idli. The video was shared by a food vlogger named Sukri Jain. The clip started with the vendor chopping the idli into small pieces. He then poured some red chutney, coconut chutney, sambhar and ice cream over the idli. He mixed all the ingredients together before laying the mixture flat on a cold plate. As the video ended, the seller was seen plating his creation by garnishing it with half an idli and some chutney. That video was shared on January 17 and has been viewed more than 13 million times.

These strange desserts often get a lot of attention on the Internet, which is probably a signal why vendors or restaurants are trying such strange recipes. What do you think of this new idli dessert and would you like to try it?
