ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court was asked on Tuesday to direct the federal and provincial governments to implement to the letter all the points of the National Action Plan 2014, which was approved by Parliament to combat terrorism and extremism.

The Shuhada Forum Balochistan through its patron Nawabzada Jamal Raisani has filed a petition in the Supreme Court under Article 184(3) of the Constitution, allowing the Federation through the Department of Legislation, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Secretaries of Ministries of Defense, Home affairs and chief secretaries of the four provinces as respondents.

The petitioner, filed through advocate Hafiz Ahsaan Ahmed Khokhar, has requested the Supreme Court to direct the federal and provincial governments to implement all the points of the NAP 2014 in letter and spirit without delay.

The petitioner stated that Nacta/Ministry of Home Affairs, in collaboration with stakeholders, developed a 20-point National Action Plan (NAP) to combat terrorism and extremism, which was subsequently approved by Parliament on 24 December 2014.

He claimed that the plan had laid out the details for the fight against terrorism in the country but despite national consensus, the plan had unfortunately not been implemented by the governments.

He prayed the apex court to kindly direct the federal and provincial governments to immediately initiate legal, judicial, prosecutorial and police reforms for a speedy, robust criminal justice system and to enforce the 2002 Police Order throughout Pakistan in letter and spirit.
