Drug lord disappears in Spain after being released on bail

A drug mafia boss has gone into hiding in Spain in a bid to avoid extradition to the Netherlands after being unexpectedly released on bail in a highly embarrassing judicial ‘fiasco’ for Spanish authorities.

Just days before Karim Bouyakhrichan’s escape, King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands thanked King Felipe of Spain for helping to accommodate his daughter Catherine-Amalia, the Crown Princess, in Madrid after threats from drug gangs.

Bouyakhrichan, a key figure in the infamous Dutch ‘Mocro Mafia’ of drug gangs of Moroccan descent, managed to escape when he was released by a local court in Malaga after posting just €50,000 in bail, apparently inadvertently.

He was arrested in January along with five in Marbella, a luxury tourist resort on Spain’s south coast
