Albuquerque teen kills mother’s ex in self-defense at local apartment complex

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A tense confrontation at The Ridge Apartments ended fatally when an 18-year-old man allegedly shot his mother’s ex-boyfriend in self-defense early Saturday morning, according to Albuquerque Police Department officials.

The incident, which police are investigating as a justifiable homicide, happened just before 8:30 a.m. near Tramway and Copper NE. The Albuquerque Journal reported that the young man acted in defense when the armed ex-boyfriend threatened to kill family members.

Upon arrival, officers found the ex-boyfriend dead from gunshot wounds. After the argument, the son was arrested for questioning.

“This appears to be a case of self-defense,” Perdue said, highlighting the ongoing investigation to determine the full details of the confrontation.

Residents of The Ridge apartments expressed shock and concern about the violence, though many declined to speak on the record.
