Blue Origin SERA Space Exploration and Research Agency Collaborate Develop Human Spaceflight Program Civilian Countries Lack of Access to Space

US-based space companies Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA) and Blue Origin have collaborated to develop a unique human spaceflight program that will allow citizens of countries to fly to space that have historically not had access to space . This space program allows citizens from all over the world to become astronauts every day and participate in space science. All six seats on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin New Shepard spacecraft have been reserved for the first flight.

Because the goal of the program is to make space more accessible, five of the seats will be given to five partner countries that have never had or very few astronauts. The partner countries have yet to be announced. Meanwhile, a person from any country can ride in the sixth seat.

More about SERA’s space program and mission

SERA develops the payloads for scientific experiments on board the flight in collaboration with national space agencies and regional research institutes.

The space community will select the last astronauts and determine scientific experiments.

In a statement from SERA, Joshua Skurla, co-founder of the organization, said that about 150 countries have never had an astronaut, and that they have created a program to change this and make space more accessible to everyone.

Phil Joyce, Senior Vice President, New Shepard Business Unit, Blue Origin, said the future lives of people in space must reflect the rich diversity here on Earth, and that the program will help people who have never had the opportunity to go to space will let you experience its wonders. .

More than 80 percent of all astronauts to date have flown to space from just three countries: the US, Russia and China. Furthermore, these countries own and operate approximately 80 percent of the infrastructure in space. SERA was founded to address the historical imbalance.

Sam Hutchison, co-founder of SERA, said that despite the trillions spent by governments, there have typically only been a handful of people in space over the past 30 years.

He also said that SERA wants to ensure that everyone on Earth has the opportunity to participate in the growth of the space economy, as the solar system’s incredibly rich material and energy resources remain completely untapped and launch costs fall.
