Suffolk Fire and Rescue crews remain at the scene of the fire that destroyed the Carts Unlimited building. According to SFD, an apartment was located on the second floor and two residents were displaced as a result of the incident. The residents were home at the time of the fire, but were able to leave the building on their own. No injuries have been reported. The SFR Fire Marshal’s Office will continue to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.

On Monday around 10 p.m., Suffolk Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched to the 700 block of N. Main St. for a fire at a commercial structure. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from a large commercial building. The fire was visible from the roof and heavy smoke was coming from the interior. Following a coordinated interior raid to search for any occupants believed to be in the building, an evacuation order was issued at 10:51 p.m.

The fire was under control just before 4 a.m., but firefighters remained on scene to extinguish any hotspots. At the time of this report, the area from N. Main St. to the intersection with East Constance Road is closed.
