Famous Galway family are planning ‘something different’ as council approves new build

A well-known Salthill business family has seen their plans for ‘something different’ for the streets of the famous seaside town approved as locals get excited about the new venture.

Nelmar Entertainment Ltd. applied in February 2024 to change the use of an off-licence at 147 Upper Salthill Road to a wine bar.




The property at 147 Upper Salthill will be redeveloped into a wine bar, with the well-known O’Connor family from Salthill leading the project.

Galway City Council approved plans to change the use of the prominent site on April 22, 2024, but attached several conditions to construction.

Their new wine bar will feature muted and elegant signage with very specific embossed lettering. The plans indicate that the wine bar would seat 40 people on a gross floor area of ​​58 square meters.

The conversion of the former off-licence into the new wine bar, Nelmar Entertainment Ltd, owned by Tom and Frank O’Connor, includes plans for changes to the frontage, to increase the height of the existing roof at the rear of the property. , and to add new signage.

The O’Connor family are famous for having the popular Salthill pub in their name. O’Connor’s is one of the oldest establishments in the village and also a tourist mecca for those looking for a proper Irish pub with a hearty pint. Nelmar Entertainment had previously promised “something different” at the new location.
