Spokesperson for the Minister of Energy, Kofi Abrefa Afena, has rejected the call by the Executive Director of the Institute of Energy Security (IES), Nana Amoasi, for Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh described as a call born of ignorance. .

According to him, it is not that the sector minister is out of touch with reality.

“Dr. Prempeh is not the type to talk too much, but believes in results. Nana Amoasi has no idea of the minister’s sleepless nights focused on addressing the current power challenges,” Kofi Abrefa said in a statement issued and sighted by GhanaWeb.

The minister’s spokesperson stated that the current challenges are being resolved and the results will soon be visible to everyone.

“The matter requires swift intervention, but I struggle to understand the logic in Amoasi’s position to dismiss the minister. When Kwabena Donkor resigned over the all-pervasive Dumsor under John Mahama, did that necessarily settle the matter? Amoasi should get serious. It’s all about solutions. Dr. Prempeh continues to work with the technical people to find amicable solutions,” he added.

The spokesperson reiterated the Minister’s desire for tolerance from the Ghanaian people as stakeholders continue to work diligently to resolve the temporary challenges.

Much criticism has been leveled at the government in recent months, with citizens and businesses expressing anger at their lights being turned off for more than twelve hours a day.

A significant section of the public has also wondered whether ‘dumsor’ is back and has asked the government to provide a timetable so that they can plan their activities properly.

But the government has said what is being experienced in the country is not ‘dumsor’, but rather equipment problems that are being addressed.

As a result, the PURC asked the ECG to prepare a load shedding schedule by April 2, 2024, a request that was ignored without explanation.
