Police officer graduated with a law degree

It was always a dream for Daniel Waekane, a police officer from Enga to study law and today it is a step towards his big dream.

Mr Waekane today graduated with a law degree (prosecution) from the UPNG School of Law at the Sir John Guise Indoor Stadium along with six other graduates.

Waekane served in the Royal Military Police for nine years and was attached to the public security and petty crimes unit at the Gerehu police station.

“I joined the police force in 2015 and passed out in 2016. From there I worked for seven years in various units and then obtained my degree.

Mr Waekane said balancing family commitments, studies and work has always been a struggle for him.

He dreams of helping people who are victims of crimes in the country.

“I persevered to obtain my diploma so that I can help the victims and bring the perpetrator to justice justice is served to each individual.

With a heart to help, Mr. Waekane has put in a lot of time, effort and sacrifice to complete his studies.

He hopes to take the next step in collaboration with the Public Prosecution Service, to fully utilize the knowledge gained at the Faculty of Law.

He is determined to obtain his law degree in his later years.

Mr Waekane said PNG needs people with the right knowledge of the legal processes to support those in need. Justice must be served equally to all people because the Constitution is for all.
