Gov. Eno offers job and scholarship to woman, daughter of businessman killed by kidnappers

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has offered a job to the wife of a businessman, Sylvanus Ukpong, who was killed by kidnappers, and given a scholarship to the daughter of the deceased from secondary school to university level .

The governor also ordered security agents to identify and bring to justice armed thugs who were killing people and committing other violent crimes, especially those who killed Ukpong.
As a deterrent measure, the governor announced that he would soon sign an Executive Order (EO) authorizing the demolition of houses harboring kidnappers and whose owners will be prosecuted.

The CEO of Emem Farms Limited (EFL), and a construction company, Emem and Sons Limited (ESL), collected LEADERSHIP Sunday, was shot dead along Airport Road, Uyo, two weeks ago, while trying to resist being kidnapped by armed hoodlums, who also took his female farm manager with them when they returned from the farm.

A visibly angry governor, who consoled the bereaved families, however, directed security agencies to work in synergy to rout criminal elements to restore normalcy in the restive areas of the state, including parts of Uyo, Mkpat Enin, Itu and the local people of Oruk Anam. government areas.

He said: ‘To be honest, this is not the kind of visit I would like to do. This is the second time in a week I’ve done this, and I’m devastated.

I have come here today, on behalf of the government and people of our dear state, to express our condolences and console the family.

“I want to assure them that the government will rally around the family at this time of their mourning. I am told that the late Slyvanus Ukpong has a daughter, Emem Sylvanus Ukpong, who is an SS1 student.

“We will soon establish a scholarship for her up to university level. The secretary to the state government (SSG) will handle this. The money is managed by her mother.

“I also understand that her widowed mother is currently unemployed and is a trained teacher. We need more trained teachers. That is why we automatically offer her a job in the government service.”

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr Cletus Ukpong, a journalist and South Regional Editor of Premium Times, commended the governor for the kind gesture.

“Your Excellency, on behalf of the family we thank you very much for this visit. You could have sent a delegation to visit us, but you dedicated your life to comforting those affected and this is a great testimony of your love for this state and its people. Thank you very much for this visit.”
