San Gabriel Valley Council of Government President Tim Hepburn joined local elected officials in unveiling three area food recovery centers on Monday, April 21, as part of the FRESH SGV program.

The initiative – Food Recovery for Equity, Sustainability, and Health – brings together twenty San Gabriel Valley cities and a handful of nonprofits in an effort to streamline the collection and redistribution of surplus food in the region to address the growing problem of food insecurity to fight.

At a press conference at one of the hubs – Foothill Unity Center in Monrovia – Hepburn announced that nonprofits God’s Pantry would operate the hub in Pomona and Heart of Compassion would operate the hub in Montebello.

The event also celebrated the millions of dollars in grants the program has received through CalRecycle, the LA County Food Equity Fund and the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

After the press conference, attendees were given a tour of the food distribution center and warehouse.
