Datia Religious Fair: Fire breaks out at Datia Religious Fair | Bhopal News

Bhopal: A day before the 28-year traditional Pandokhar Dham Mahotsav in Datia, a major fire broke out on Monday afternoon, destroying property worth around Rs 1 crore as strong winds fanned the blaze. Fortunately, no casualty was reported. The flames engulfed the huts of devotees, including those where sadhus were housed. The smoke coming out was visible from far away. It took Bhander fire brigade more than two hours to bring the flames under control with the help of villagers and residents. The incident took place around 3:30 p.m. Those involved in the firefighting efforts claimed to have nearly 90% of the fire under control by the time firefighters arrived. Authorities are trying to determine the cause of the fire. The fire started in one of the cottages for housing sadhus and devotees and spread to the newly constructed Dham office and Maharaj’s residence. Crucial documents, electronic devices, jewellery, furniture and wooden items, totaling over Rs 1 crore, were stripped, police said. Local residents suspect that electrical faults may have caused the fire. A worker claimed to have seen a man “fleeing the area” during the incident, police say, leading investigators to also consider sabotage. The Pandokhar Dham Mahotsav, an annual tradition, will kick off on April 23 with a Kalash Yatra. , followed by a week-long Shri Ram Katha. The party will feature bhajan singers: Jittu Khare, Shahnaz Akhtar, Sanjo Baghel and Lakhbir Singh Lakha. It closes on May 8. Pandokhar Peethadhishwar Pandit Guru Sharan Sharma, Arpitacharya Ji Maharaj of Vrindavan and Sadhvi Pitambara would address the gathering during the festival.
