Obituary of Catarina Petronella Hendriks
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Catarina Hendriks, at the age of 85 on April 20, 2024. Born in the Netherlands, she emigrated to Beamsville in 1958.
She is survived by her husband Leo of 65 years and children Cathy (Bill), Marian (Kevin) and Brian (Vicki). Grandchildren: Robert, Michael (Nadine), Madison (Brandon) Nick, Jeff (Irena) Brad (Kate) Melissa (Sebastien) Morgan (Amanda) Quinn (Sean). Great-grandchildren: Scarlett, Bella, Victoria, Avery, Jack and Evelyn.
Her greatest joy was her family and feeding everyone who came through her door. My mother dedicated her life to caring for others through Scouting (both here and in the Netherlands), as a foster parent and then as a long-term caregiver of 2 medically disabled children. She also babysat two of her grandchildren full-time and then became her husband Leo’s sole caregiver in their later years until six weeks before her death.
She was an avid gardener with many breathtakingly beautiful gardens. My mother was an avid reader and loved discussing and sharing her books. She enjoyed singing in the Lincoln Seniors choir for many years and also loved music. Her house was never quiet; with classical music in the background, and they often humming or singing along. She also looked for new, interesting recipes to cook and enjoyed baking with her grandson Robert. Mom and Dad spent many happy years in their cozy cottage exploring Muskoka. They also enjoyed traveling on several scenic bus trips in their senior years.
We would like to thank the following people for their special, compassionate care of Mom: Dr. Liam Crummey, palliative nurses Tracey and Paul in the home and their wonderful nurses and volunteers from McNally House.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Tallman Funeral Homes (3277 King St., Vineland) on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM. 1 hour visitation prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the service at Mount Osborne Cemetery in Beamsville. Reception in the Fireside Room following the funeral.
