More than a dozen accused animals rescued in a dogfighting ring

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has charged more than a dozen people in a dog fighting ring.

SLED officials say two dogs were rescued during an active fight in Richland County on Saturday evening and taken to a local veterinarian for treatment.

On April 20, multiple weapons and more than $84,000 were found at the scene on McCord Ferry Road.

  • Daryl Bowman, 29, of Columbia, SC
  • Kareem Witherspoon, 48, of Heath Springs, SC
  • Glenn Housel, 51, of Newberry, SC
  • Patrick Heard, 45, of Elberton, Georgia
  • Kareem Lann, 25, of Chester, SC
  • Lataruis Antwan Robinson, 42, of Fort Lawn, SC

They are all charged with animal fighting and animal baiting and are being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the arrests. SLED’s research is still ongoing.
