Runners in white T-shirts were doused in brightly colored powder — blue and red, yellow and green — as they took part in a colorful race this weekend to honor first-generation immigrants.

The 3K race at Mike Ward Community Park in Irvine on Saturday, April 20 was one of the final festivities of the second annual Irvine Tech Week. It was called the FirstGen Color Run to celebrate first-generation immigrants and “people who believe in the American dream,” said John Shen, founder of Sunstone Management, an Irvine-based private equity firm that invests in early-stage companies.

All proceeds from the race will benefit the Sunstone Community Fund, a charitable organization that provides support to nonprofits, universities, and public and private partners developing early-stage entrepreneurship programs and technology accelerators.
