Universal City moves forward with ambitious plan

Universal City, a city of about 20,000 residents near San Antonio, is about to give the green light to an ambitious mixed-use development in the city. The City Council has approved multiple ordinances and resolutions for the sale and repurposing of 43 acres of land located at Loop 1604 and Kitty Hawk Road, behind an HEB and Walmart. Community Impact reports that the ordinances will need to be read one more time before the rezoning and agreements become official.

The Society for Economic Development and the City Council selected Reunion Development Partners to move forward with development in 2022.

The development could include:

  • General and medical office space
  • Hotel
  • Open spaces
  • Multi-family
  • Senior living
  • Restaurants
  • Retail

The site plan presented to the city council included eight plots, two of which aimed to create private open spaces for the public.
