Second person dead in truck crash at Brenham DPS office

Cheryl Turner, 63, of Brenham, was the second person killed in the April 12 crash, according to DPS.

The driver of the truck, Clenard Parker, 42, has been charged with murder and multiple other crimes stemming from the crash. Parker is accused of stealing a tractor trailer loaded with cargo and leading police on a chase along feeder roads between Chappell Hill and Brenham, in Washington County.

Parker allegedly deliberately drove the truck into the front of the DPS building, which housed offices for both licensing and highway patrol.

Police have said Parker had been turned away from the licensing office the day before when he had tried and failed to renew his commercial driver’s license.

There were 14 people in the DPS building at the time of the crash. Six people were hospitalized, three of whom were seriously injured.

Bobby Huff, 78, died the day of the crash. Turner was in critical but stable condition as of last Friday.

Parker has also been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief, evading arrest and unauthorized use of a vehicle, according to DPS.

Parker is in custody in Washington County and is being held on a $6 million bond, according to Washington County jail records.
