Five years later, Sri Lanka is still seeking justice for the Easter Sunday attacks

COLOMBO (News 1st) – Five years have passed since the horrific Easter Sunday attacks that shattered peace in Sri Lanka.

On this solemn anniversary, the island nation commemorates the 269 lives lost in the bombings of churches and hotels.

As religious services across the country commemorate the victims, there is a sense of injustice.

Protests demanding accountability for perpetrators continue, highlighting the lack of progress in bringing those responsible to justice.

The attacks, carried out by suicide bombers, left a lasting scar.

Many were injured and countless others were left permanently disabled.

The Easter Sunday tragedy continues to cast a long shadow, a daily reminder of the violence that unfolded in 2019.

Despite the passage of time, the search for justice remains central.

A night-time procession demanding responsibility for the victims began this afternoon near the St. Anthony Shrine in Kochchikade.

Earlier on Sunday (21), a service was held at the same shrine, providing solace and remembrance to the bereaved family and the entire nation.
