ADR and Too Good To Go join forces to combat food waste at Rome airports

On Earth Day, Aeroporti di Roma (ADR), part of the Mundys Group, announced a new partnership with Too Good To Go, the world’s largest surplus food marketplace, to tackle food waste at Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport and GB Pastine Ciampino Airport . This initiative is in line with both organizations’ commitment to environmental sustainability and will include 32 dining options, including Autogrill, Chef Express, Lagardère Travel Retail Italia, MyChef and Venchi.

The collaboration aims to educate passengers and the airport community on the importance of reducing food waste and promoting the recovery of surplus food. By the end of 2024, the partnership expects to save 12,000 meals and significantly reduce environmental impact – preventing more than 32 tons of CO2 emissions, saving 9 million liters of water and conserving 33,000 square meters of land.

Marilena Blasi, Chief Commercial Officer at Aeroporti di Roma, emphasized the company’s collaborative spirit: “The strong spirit of cooperation that has always distinguished our relationships with our commercial partners has allowed us to achieve this important milestone. This is a further sign of our attention and care for passengers and for the airport community who see the airport as their home and now have an additional opportunity to help protect the environment by preventing food waste and actively participating in the sustainable values and sustainable policy of ADR and its partners.”

Mirco Cerisola, Country Director of Too Good To Go for Italy, also shared his enthusiasm: “We are proud and enthusiastic about the collaboration with Aeroporti di Roma. We work every day to make preventing food waste a good habit for everyone, everywhere. We are therefore very pleased that we can finally make it possible for everyone departing from Rome airports to store food that is still good to eat.”

Passengers departing from Rome’s major airports can now purchase Too Good To Go ‘Surprise Bags’ at special prices from participating stores. These bags contain excellent products that would otherwise go to waste, offering travelers an eco-friendly choice that contributes to a sustainable travel experience.
