SecondBite and FareShare to merge and expand food charity services

Food charities SecondBite and FareShare will merge with effect from July 1.

“Combining FareShare’s incredible community-led culture with SecondBite’s national scale and genuine reach will enable a single solution for providing free, nutritious food to communities that need it most,” said Daniel Moorfield, CEO of SecondBite.

“It will enable growth, resulting in a greater food supply and a more customized approach where the need is greatest.”

SecondBite noted that according to the research, 48 percent of Australians skip at least one meal a week due to economic or financial reasons.

“FareShare meals can be distributed nationwide in the community using the existing SecondBite network. Frontline agencies will have the convenience of a single delivery, delivering SecondBite food and FareShare meals,” said Sandy Dudakov, FareShare vice chairman.

Coles and Woolworths, the main food and financial donors to SecondBite and FareShare, expressed their support for the merger.
