Kilsaran launches two electric trucks | Irish Building Magazine.ie

The electric vehicles will be based in Ringsend, Dublin and mark an important step in the company’s commitment to environmentally responsible practices.

Ken Mulkerrins, Group Head of Innovation & Sustainability at Kilsaran, said: “Kilsaran always strives to reduce the environmental impact of construction. We are proud to introduce two new electric trucks to our fleet, reinforcing our commitment to environmental sustainability. We are proud to be leading the way by introducing the first electric concrete trucks in Ireland.

This represents a new era for the distribution of construction products in urbanized areas and we aim to serve as a model for other companies in the construction industry to adopt cleaner and greener transportation solutions. We have been working on clean fuel for some time now. Our fuel consumption has fallen by 22% since 2017 and we aim to further reduce our total scope 1 and 2 emissions by 37% by 2030.

Working with Volvo, we ran a number of scenarios and gathered input from our customers to see how we could make this work. Walls Construction, one of our valued customers, has kindly offered to come on board with us to operate these trucks on some of their live projects in central Dublin.”

The trucks are also equipped with the GSR2 safety package and lower passenger door windows, both of which comply with the EU’s new general safety regulations. These features make the vehicles particularly suitable for deliveries in the city, where there is more pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

Kilsaran’s commitment to ESG, research and continued innovation is evident in the recent publication of its ESG Responsible Business Strategy. The strategy, built around the four pillars of Planet, People, Solutions and Performance, is aligned with the UN sustainability goals, the Paris Agreement and the Irish Climate Action Plan. You can find their strategy here.

Celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, family-owned and operated Kilsaran specializes in producing superior quality construction products from its six business units including;

Concrete products and aggregates, prefab, road construction and contracting, KPRO pre-mixed dry mortar products, paving and walls and material recovery and recycling.

On Wednesday 24 April, Kilsaran will host an ESG Insights for the Construction Industry event at the Aviva Stadium.
